welcome photo

Hi! So I was looking through some recipe blogs for some inspiration for my weekend cooking and all I could think about was this yummy provincial vegetable quiche I had in Paris years ago… So I stopped browsing and just made a quiche…

It got me thinking though… I have a lot of fond memories about food… From waiting to lick the bowl of bรฉchamel sauce that my mum would make, to learning how to make perfect rice from my sister, to making my first dish all by myself (pumpkin soup – no one in my family liked pumpkin and I wanted pumpkin soup don’t ya know!!).

Whenever I’m trying to create my weekly shopping list I choose meals that pop into my mind because of a daydream, a memory, a taste, a smell or a picture.

So this is going to be a random collection of recipes – my own, my sister’s, other peoples (credited of course!) – any recipe that has a story behind it. If these recipes inspire others to take them and make them their own, great! If not, then I have a fabulous collection of recipes, memories and stories I can look over when I need inspiration again.

On a side note… This will not be a photo-focused recipe blog as I am kinda of a crappy photographer. There will usually be only one photo per recipe… You’ve been warned!

Happy cooking and eating people

About Food Daydreaming

I follow new recipes perfectly the first couple of times and then I pull them apart and put them back together my way. My biggest pet peeve is when I follow a recipe to a tee and then it doesn't turn out the way it should... I end up growling in my kitchen and that's just not right ;)

  1. Food photography is my achilles heel too. I often wonder what my blog would look like if I was a better photographer. One thing I have learnt in my short time in the blogosphere is all you really need is great recipes.Looking forward to following you.

  2. I relate “totally” to everything you said! ๐Ÿ™‚ I am a crappy photographer taking all my blog photographs with either my iPhone or a cheap point and click! I still love to publish my recipes and have so much fun. The focus really is on the cooking and eating. Thank you for stopping in and “following” my blog. I look forward to seeing what you have cooking in your kitchen. ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Ha, I use my iPhone too or my point and click when I can find it. Somehow I doubt that the ‘food’ mode makes the pics any better ๐Ÿ™‚ Thank you, I look forward to seeing everything you share too!

  3. I totally agree. Bottom line, we appreciate well written tasty recipes, and photo(s) to let us know how they look! I do not own an expensive camera and dread photo taking part of it. ๐Ÿ˜€ )))

  4. Even I take my pics before serving the food! N yes, I take all the blog photographs using my iphone.. So far I’m happy publishing recipes with the pics I have as I feel they do serve the purpose! Thank you for checking out my blog and following it! Can’t wait to read more of your recipes! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Thanks for stopping by my blog so that I found yours! I was reading your about page and the comments, and the photography part is very difficult for me, too. I totally relate to the dreading part! It takes forever for me to come up with one decent picture, decent being a relative term. Best wishes to you on your blogging and photography.

  7. Haha, I love your honesty about photography. I feel like I should have the same disclaimer. I’m trying and learning but an iPhone can only do so much. Completely relate to the food/memory connection. It also amazes me how bad service/company can taint an entire meal. Thanks for following my blog and leading me to yours!

  9. Ev

Only one photograph per recipe – classic! Lol… I used to do that but now my new rule is only one GOOD photograph per recipe – everything else on my iPhone.

    • Ha, made me laugh! I really hate cookbooks without pics, I like knowing what the overall dish ‘should’ look like when it’s done, so I have to post at least one photo and just hope that not all of them are blurry!

  25. I just found your blog and I love it!!! You have such great recipes and I can’t wait to try some of them out ๐Ÿ™‚ Keep up the awesome work!

  26. Photos are my achilles heel to but I have caved and gone over to the dark sideโ€ฆI only use my iPhone but I do style and edit the finished look. I don’t slave over a hot stove for food to go cold while I fuss with it to a chorus of “can we eat yet?” so my solution is to make an extra portion that I can take my time over the next day!

  27. I’ve just discovered your blog for the first time and you certainly have some tempting recipes here. I can safely say I am day dreaming about food now ๐Ÿ˜‰

  29. hahaha…I loved the warning… I think I manage to take decent looking pics on some days, but on other days capturing the right shot seems to take so long (usually when I am hungry)! Sometimes I think I have the perfect shot, we eat all the food that I made, and then I find out the pic isn’t that great…Sigh. Anyway, great write-up Effie! ๐Ÿ™‚

  30. Food daydreaming, that’s my favourite pastime, too! Looking forward to more.

  31. I love the name of your blog and can’t wait to look around!

  32. Effie – photography’s not my thing either though I keep meaning to get better at it! I’m enjoying reading you and exploring your recipes. Trying to figure out where on the planet you are located! So happy to be co-hosting at Fiesta Friday with you.
